- What does BeatDrill actually score?
- Timing, not pitch. You read a written two-bar rhythm, then sing, scat, or tap it back after a two-bar metronome count-in. BeatDrill compares the timing of your notes against the written rhythm — whether you were on time, early, late, missed a note, or added an extra one.
- How does voice/scat scoring work, and why doesn't the metronome click confuse it?
- BeatDrill uses Apple's Voice Processing I/O (the same acoustic echo cancellation tech used in phone calls) to subtract the metronome's speaker output from what the microphone hears before it ever looks for onsets. That's what lets it score you singing along with an audible click without the click itself being mistaken for your voice.
- Do I need to be a good singer to use BeatDrill?
- No. BeatDrill never scores pitch — only timing. Singing, scatting ("da-da-DA"), humming, or clapping into the mic all work the same way, because only the timing of each attack matters.
- Is BeatDrill free?
